Target Audience: This session is designed for pediatric primary care physicians, their clinical teams, and other non-clinical healthcare staff involved in pediatric care.

Overview: Eating disorders are complex mental health conditions with severe physical and emotional consequences, affecting individuals from all demographics. This webinar will focus on the identification, treatment, and ongoing support for pediatric patients with eating disorders in Maine. Participants will explore the unique challenges of managing care post-treatment and learn about key resources and programs available locally. This session is designed to equip healthcare professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to provide comprehensive, long-term support for children and teens with eating disorders, ensuring continuity of care beyond program completion.

Learning Objectives:
1. Identify the most common eating disorders affecting pediatric patients, including anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and ARFID, and understand their impact on physical and mental health.
2. Connect healthcare professionals, patients, and families to Maine-based resources, such as the Acadia Outpatient Treatment Center and local support networks, ensuring access to specialized care and community- based programs.
3. Develop strategies to manage care transitions and provide ongoing support for pediatric patients after completing treatment programs, addressing common challenges that may arise during this critical phase of recovery.

Presented By:
Sara Porter, LCSW
is the clinical supervisor of Pediatric Outpatient Services at Northern Light Acadia Hospital. She has had extensive training and experience working with children, adolescents and adults, including attending the Training Institute for Child and Adolescent Eating Disorders. She is passionate about breaking down barriers, early intervention, educating medical and mental health providers so
patients and families can receive the treatment they need.

Shannon Murray, LCSW works at Northern Light Acadia Hospital- Pediatric Outpatient Services primarily in the Eating Disorder Clinic with all genders, ages 5-22. Shannon graduated from the University of Maine with her master’s degree in social work in 2015. She is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for ARFID (CBT-AR). Her focus in eating disorder treatment is utilizing the family-based therapy model, Health at Every Size approach, and Intuitive Eating framework.
