Preventing Youth Suicide: Bringing Evidence into Practice

Corbin J. Standley, American Foundation of Suicide Prevention (AFSP) Director of Impact
Communication and Continuous Improvement, authored a blog post featuring an interview with
Edward Salzberg, MD FAAP, a pediatrician at Roswell Pediatrics Center in Georgia, after the
loss of a patient to suicide in early 2023. Dr. Salzberg shares, “I had a teenager who died by
suicide within 30 minutes of leaving their wellness visit. After that, I thought to myself, ‘How
can we do better?’. Until it happens to you, until you have a really close encounter, you may not
know what to do.” Read more to learn about the work of AAP and AFSP in advancing Suicide
