Mosquito-Borne Disease Prevention: Maine, like much of New England, is in the middle of a very active mosquito season. With similar conditions likely through the rest of summer and fall, the risk of mosquito-borne diseases remains high. Maine has already seen mosquitoes test positive for Jamestown Canyon virus (JCV) and wild birds test positive for West Nile virus (WNV) this year. Other New England states, including Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont have also seen mosquito-borne disease activity. Maine CDC has resources for municipalities, organizations, and individuals to help protect their communities and families from mosquito-borne diseases. The best way to prevent a mosquito-borne disease is to prevent mosquito bites. Please use and share these resources widely.
