    Anna Mayo, Psy.D., is a pediatric psychologist who works in Northern Light Health’s Pediatric Specialty Care. She provides short-term behavioral health treatment for children and adolescents with chronic medical conditions. She specializes in helping patients and their families address the biopsychosocial factors affecting the patient’s physical health.

Increasing Rates of Invasive Group A Strep Infections

  • Yorgo Zahlanie, MD, FAAP Northern Light Health, Pediatric Infectious Disease

    Dr. Yorgo Zahlanie went to medical school at the American University of Beirut in Lebanon. He then did his residency in Pediatrics at SUNY Upstate Medical University in Syracuse NY and then fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX. He is currently a Pediatric Infectious Disease Specialist at Northern Light Eastern Maine Medical Center. He evaluates infants, children, and adolescents with all sorts of infections or suspected infections in both inpatient and outpatient settings. He is involved in Antimicrobial Stewardship and works to improve antimicrobial use.

    I was born and raised in Montpelier, VT. I now live outside of Portland with my husband and our young family. My first introduction to Maine was as a medical student where I quickly realized that I hoped to return and practice here one day! I love being a Pediatric Pulmonologist and feel honored to serve our community at large. I'm so excited to serve in my new role as Vice-President of the Maine Chapter of the AAP!

Perinatal Hepatitis C, HIV, and Congenital Syphilis in Maine: Updates and Recommendations

  • Helen Price-Wharff, MPH, FNP Maine CDC, Hepatitis C Navigator

    Helen T. Price-Wharff, MPH, FNP (she/hers) is the Hepatitis C Navigator for the Hepatitis and Harm Reduction Program at the Maine CDC. She has an MSN from USM, and an MPH from UNE. Prior to working in public health at the Maine CDC, she practiced as a Family Nurse Practitioner in Maine for over 20 years. Her areas of clinical practice have included obstetrics and gynecology, reproductive health and family planning, and school-based health.

Bumps to the Brain: 2024 Updates on Concussion Management

  • Michele Labotz, MD, FAAP MaineHealth Medical Center, Pediatrics, Sports Medicine

    Dr. LaBotz trained in pediatrics and sports medicine and recently retired from clinical practice at InterMed in Portland, Maine. She now serves as a consultant for Maine Health’s “Let’s Go“ program; is a member of the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital Scholarship Academy; Associate Professor of Pediatrics at the Tufts University School of Medicine; and is the medical director for the University of New England Athletic Training Program. Her current areas of interest include physical literacy development and physical activity in children and adolescents, sports nutrition and injury prevention.

    She serves on the Health and Safety Advisory Council for the National Council on Youth Sports, the Board of Directors for the Maine Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics, and is a content expert for United States Anti-Doping Agency’s True Sport educational program.

    Dr. LaBotz attended the University of Michigan and the University of California at Irvine. She received her MD degree from Dartmouth Medical School, her pediatric residency at the University of Wisconsin at Madison and Maine Medical Center and completed her sports medicine fellowship at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She served as team physician and co-founded the sports medicine fellowship at the University of Hawai’i before returning to Maine.

    She lives on Cousins Island with her husband (a retired golf professional), and their dog Pinkie, and engages in a variety of outdoor activities throughout the year.

Telehealth: What Clinicians Need to Know

  • Valerie O'Hara, DO, FAAP MaineHealth Medical Center, Pediatrics, Obesity Medicine

    Dr. Valerie M. O’Hara, FAAP, FOMA, ABOM, is a Pediatric Obesity Physician Specialist at the Weight & Wellness Center Maine Medical Center, and founder and Medical Director of WOW Clinic (2009 – 2020), WOW 4 Wellness Clinic (2020 – 2022).

    Dr. O’Hara brings 23 years of pediatric obesity medicine experience to her families and community. She received her board certification in Obesity Medicine in 2013 via the American Board of Obesity Medicine. Dr. O’Hara presented research data at multiple National conferences, including OMA, AAP, The Obesity Society, and the NIH and the Dept of Defense in Washington, DC. At the ECO2023 conference, she participated in a 5-country symposium on Pediatric Obesity. Dr. O’Hara shared expertise on Telemedicine for Adolescents living with obesity nationally and internationally. She serves on the Editorial Review Board of the OMA Obesity Pillars Journal.

    She has numerous publications including Obesity and ADHD, Barriers to Pediatric Obesity Care and role of Telemedicine, Sleep Dysregulation and Obesity, and is a co-author of the OMA Pediatric Obesity Algorithm and Clinical Practice Statements. She is a member of the Obesity Society, The Obesity Medicine Association, Obesity Action Coalition, and the Obesity Section of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

    Dr. O’Hara graduated from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1996, completed her Pediatric Residency at Maine Medical Center in 1999. Dr. O’Hara is passionate about her patients and is dedicated to improving the health of the families with whom she works, with focus on providing care to those in rural and underserved areas.

  • Danielle Louder MCD Global Health and Northeast Telehealth Resource Center

    Danielle Louder serves as Co-Director of MCD Global Health’s U.S. based programs. In this role she is responsible for growth of the U.S. based portfolio, facilitating collaborations with organizations regionally and nationally. Danielle serves in a number of leadership positions, including representation of telehealth and rural health on state, regional and national advisory and planning groups, as well as serving on the Editorial Board for Telemedicine and eHealth. She was appointed by Governor Janet Mills to the Board of Directors for the Maine Connectivity Authority in July 2021, and received the 2022 Phebe Conrey King Access to Healthcare Award from the Maine Public Health Association.

    Since 2014, Danielle has also served as Program Director for the federally funded (HRSA/OAT) Northeast Telehealth Resource Center (NETRC), a member of the National Consortium of Telehealth Resource Centers, where she leads efforts focused on implementation and growth of telehealth programs throughout the NETRC region, (New England and NY), as well as collaborating with colleagues from the National Consortium on nation-wide efforts to advance the reach and impact of telehealth. Key efforts include working with stakeholders to advance access and improve health outcomes for rural and underserved populations through innovative models, (e.g. Project ECHO®), and assisting health systems and providers to leverage telehealth to address today’s crucial health issues. Danielle completed her Bachelor’s in Biology at the University of Maine in 1997.

    Carrie Gordon is the medical director of Maine Health's Let's Go/Healthy Eating Active Living Department, in Community Health. She trained as a pediatric nephrologist but left the field in 2018 to develop the pediatric arm of the MMC Weight and Wellness program, now Maine Health Weight Management. Her current areas of focus include childhood obesity treatment, Food is Medicine and working to develop Intensive Health Behavior and Lifestyle Treatment programs across Maine Health's catchment area.

Climate Change & Kids: Health Effects & Communication Strategies for Pediatricians

  • Erin Flynn, MD, FAAP MaineGeneral Medical Center, Kennebec Pediatrics

    Erin Flynn, MD, FAAP is a board-certified pediatrician practicing primary care pediatrics in Augusta, Maine. She completed her pediatric residency at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, where she was also a chief resident. At CHOP, she completed training in the Advanced Skill in Health Policy and contributed to policy research at the CHOP PolicyLab. She is currently completing a certificate in Climate Change and Health through the Yale School of Public Health. When not caring for kids in clinic or thinking about policy strategies to improve children's health, Erin loves cooking, running, hiking, and exploring Maine with her daughter, husband, and intrepid pup.
